Julia Blackler has been painting for many years. She has learnt several kinds of art such as Stained Glass, Porcelain Art, Folk Art, Handmade Paper, making cards, wedding invitations, as well as spinning and dying with natural dyes with her farm grown wool. Now she only paints, in water colour, oil, acrylic and pastel and she is basically self-taught. Her subjects are presented realistically or in a way which is “out of the square”. Sometimes work is just from her imagination. She likes to use bold colour. She has always, in her adult life, lived in the country. At present she lives beside the Tauranga Harbour at Katikati and she is very influenced by this situation for many of her paintings. Her view is looking West over a back water of the Harbour, over rural Katikati and up into the Kaimai Mountain Range. She exhibits in several local Exhibitions as well as the Bay of Plenty “Garden and Art Festival”. A member of the Pastel Association of N.Z. - P.A.N.Z. Phone: (07) 5490 081.
